Convert Claude Output to Word

Claude writes longer-form answers in Markdown by default — especially noticeable in multi-section reports, structured comparisons, or anything with headings and numbered lists — and, like most AI chat tools, that formatting doesn't survive a direct copy-paste into Word.

This page presets mdformatter's converter to Word output specifically for that: paste the Markdown from a Claude response, click Convert, and get a real Word document with proper heading levels, tables rendered as actual tables, code blocks kept in a monospace font, and any LaTeX math turned into a native, editable Word equation.

This is aimed at the common case of using Claude to draft something substantial — a report, a proposal, structured research notes — and needing it in an editable, properly formatted Word file rather than a wall of Markdown syntax.

Claude's Artifacts feature also produces standalone Markdown documents rather than inline chat replies — those paste into this converter exactly the same way as a regular response, since the underlying formatting is the same Markdown syntax either way.

Professional and legal-ready Markdown output

The same Markdown draft can become an editable Word document, a fixed PDF, or clean HTML. For legal and adjacent professional workflows, mdformatter also includes UK and US legal-style presets for margins, page size, spacing, and heading treatment, so lawyers, paralegals, compliance teams, consultants, and other document-heavy trades can turn structured Markdown into review-ready files faster.

mdformatter does not review or draft legal advice; it preserves and formats the document structure you provide.Open the legal Markdown to Word workflow.

Markdown LaTeX input converting into an editable Word equation output

Math survives the DOCX export

LaTeX-style math becomes editable Word equations, not flattened images.

Inline formulas and display equations stay part of the Word document so they can be selected, edited, and restyled after download.

How to convert Markdown to Word (DOCX)

  1. Paste Markdown or drop in a .md file, including headings, tables, code fences, and LaTeX math.
  2. Choose Word-focused settings such as page size, margins, cover page, table of contents, and header/footer options.
  3. Click Convert, review the preview, then download a .docx file or copy a 24-hour share link.

Features

Native Word structure

Headings, lists, blockquotes, links, and tables become real Word document elements instead of pasted Markdown syntax.

Editable Word equations

LaTeX written as $...$ or $$...$$ exports as Word-native equations that remain editable after download.

Tables and code blocks

Markdown tables become Word tables, and fenced code blocks keep monospace formatting for technical documents.

Presets and share links

Choose document settings before export, then download DOCX or create a temporary 24-hour share link for review.

Editable Word-native equations

Word and DOCX exports keep supported LaTeX math editable: inline math written as $...$ and display math written as $$...$$ are converted into Word's native equation format, not flattened into screenshots.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't Claude's formatting carry over when I paste into Word?+

Claude's responses use Markdown syntax for structure (headings, bold, lists, tables) — Word doesn't interpret that syntax on paste, so you either see the raw characters or lose the structure.

Does this work with long, multi-section Claude responses?+

Yes — heading levels (from # through deeper levels), nested lists, tables, and code blocks all convert to their native Word equivalents regardless of how long or structured the response is.

Is anything uploaded or stored?+

No account is needed, and the converted file is automatically deleted after 24 hours — the Markdown text itself is never written to disk on this end.
